Legacy Village, a 28 acre mixed use development in historic Mt. Mourne, NC is moving along fast, thanks in large part to
Cornelius Earthworks, the grading
contractor.

Brandon Cornelius, owner of Cornelius Earthworks, says the size of this site
is right for his company. Based out of
Rockwell, NC, he works in a radius that
includes Mooresville, Charlotte and
Winston Salem. He pursues jobs that
measure about 20 acres in size and
require moving 100,000 cubic yards
or more of material.

Brandon has also targeted technology as a critical part of his operations. He purchased the Topcon HiPer Lite® system and it has made a huge difference in the way he is able to work.

“It always helps when you tell the owner or general contractor you are using GPS on their job. They know the benefit of the system and how it increases productivity,” says Brandon. “I can use the GPS system for mass grading and get the grading to within 1/10-foot; this means I don’t have to move the materials more than once. I mounted the rover on a four-wheeler and ride around the site to check the grades and make sure we are on specs. I also use the system for planning the site, where we are going to put the excess material and how we are going to work. I used it on the Legacy Village site to plan the location of the excess dirt and to put in the construction entrance. Now, that we are moving some earth, I stop the job once a week to plan where we need to go and to match the shorter and longer hauls on the job." -- Brandon Cornelius
